Carbs Staple Foods Other than Rice

If you're cutting out rice, you can still replace it with other foods that serve as your main source of carbohydrates.


1. Starchy Vegetables with Higher Fiber:

  • Pumpkin: A few slices of pumpkin can provide about the same calories as one bowl of rice.

  • Corn: One whole corn cob is roughly equal to 2/3 bowl of rice.

  • Potatoes & Sweet Potatoes: One medium-sized potato or sweet potato is also approximately equal to 2/3 bowl of rice.


2. Noodles and Pasta:

These can also be good alternatives, but the amount varies depending on the type. Always check the nutrition label.

  • Typically, one nest (roll) of dried noodles equals about one bowl of rice in carbs.

  • Some thinner types may require two small nests to equal one bowl of rice.


3. For Bread Lovers:

  • Bagel: One medium-sized bagel is about equal to one bowl of rice.

  • Steamed Buns (Mantou): One regular-sized mantou or two mini mantou also equals one bowl of rice.
